An Unimaginable Oscar for Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey received an honorary Oscar for her charitable work on Saturday in what she called an unimaginable moment for a black woman who grew up poor in Mississippi and rose to the top of Hollywood stardom.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences annually bestows its Governors Awards on people who have made an impact in the industry. This year, the honorary Oscars went to Winfrey, actor James Earl Jones and makeup artist Dick Smith at a black-tie affair that brought out stars such as John Travolta, Glenn Close and Alec Baldwin.
Talk show host and film actress Winfrey, who was nominated for a supporting-actress Academy Award in 1985's "The Color Purple," was given a Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award by a young woman who was sent through high school on a financial grant she earned from Winfrey's foundation.
Winfrey teared up when accepting her honorary Oscar and described the moment as "unimaginable" given her humble roots growing up in Mississippi.
"All of us can make a difference through the life we lead," Winfrey said. "We're all here to help each other."
She talked of her career as a TV chat show host and her movie work, and said it was "The Color Purple" that paved the way to stardom which, ultimately, led to philanthropy.
That movie "door opened to me through the magic and majesty of film," she said.
James Earl Jones was given his honorary Oscar for a body of acting work that ranges from his Academy Award-nominated performance as a boxer in "The Great White Hope" to voicing the role of the villainous Darth Vader in the "Star Wars" movies.
Jones was not on hand because he is in working in London, but he spoke to the Los Angeles audience in a speech that was taped earlier on Saturday.
He said he was "deeply honored, mighty grateful and just plain gobsmacked," using British slang for being astounded.
Finally, the "Godfather of makeup" Dick Simon was given an honorary Oscar for his behind-the-scenes work using makeup and prosthetics to make actors look old, young, sick, dying and dead in films ranging from "The Exorcist" to "The Godfather."
Simon gave a tearful and heartfelt acceptance speech in which he said he has loved every minute of his work in the movie business. "This kind of puts the crowning cap on all that," Simon said.
The Oscars, or Academy Awards, for the films of 2011 will be given out in a ceremony in Los Angeles on February 26.

Girl Stabs Her Elder SisterTo Death In A Fight for Sugar Daddy!

This is one act of stupidity that gets one more confused about the goings on in Nigerian communities today. Values have indeed been thrown to the dogs by many young ladies. Life in Nigeria is fast approach a state of nobody send anybody, everybody on you own. Sad indeed! This unfortunate incident took many residents of the oil rich city of Warri, Delta State, by surprise. In fact, some close relatives of the family involved are still in a state of utter disbelief.
The incident is about how the daughter of a top official of a government agency in the...
South-South state killed her elder sister over a 'money miss road man', otherwise known as 'sugar daddy'. It was learnt that the lady, simply identified as Cecilia was killed by her younger sister [name withheld] during a conflict over who should leave the so called sugar daddy for the other. By the way, I hear the guy in the middle works with a multinational oil giant in the area.
The shameful incident which occurred at Cemetery Road area of the oil city has thrown the family into a deep state of mourning. The story goes thus: the younger sister, a third year student in the university, discovered that her elder sister was having a relationship with the same guys she's going out with, who, according to sources, already has two wives.
This discovery and subsequent questioning of her elder sister resulted in a fierce fight during which, in the usual Warri style, all forms of dangerous weapons were freely used by the duo. Before neighbors could separate them, the elder sister was fatally stabbed by her younger sister, resulting in her death.
At the moment, the younger sister is cooling off in police cell.  But the family is said to be pleading with the police authorities for out of court settlement of the matter, so as not to lose their 2 daughters. If she's dragged to court by the state, the younger sister risks been sentenced for murder... Hmm, things are really happening!

The Wolverine' Much More Intense, Says Director James Mangold

As a fan, following the production of "The Wolverine," the follow-up to 2009's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," has been a series of highs and lows. You cheered when Darren Aronofsky signed on as director, promising a much more serious take on Hugh Jackman's character, and despaired when he left the project, saying he couldn't spend so much time out of country. When James Mangold ("Walk the Line," "3:10 to Yuma") replaced Aronofsky this summer, it was unclear what direction the project would move in after a change in the director's seat. Would it be the same darker, weightier version of Wolverine that fans knew from comics and expected from Aronofsky? How much of that film would remain?
MTV News briefly spoke with Mangold about "The Wolverine" during an interview about the Blu-ray edition of "Cop Land," and the director enthusiastically shared his experience working on the film so far with Jackman on a Wolverine that's "more intense than we've ever seen him."

Mangold explained joining the project meant working with Jackman, someone he's considered a friend for a decade now, since working together on "Kate & Leopold."
"I was just really intrigued by the script and the project and the boldness of making a really personal Wolverine movie," Mangold said while assuring fans that the "serious action" is still very much there. "But it's also more of a journey for the character in a completely foreign land and more of a mystery and an adventure than it kind of is another save the world 'X-Men' film."
One of the most recent pieces of news coming out about the project centered on script re-writes, usually a sign of trouble, but Mangold said that the experience has been a completely rewarding one and one that has shed interesting light on a well-known character.
"I think it also goes more deeply into some really great questions about Hugh's character and his journey and where he's going," Mangold said. The big question Mangold brought up was Wolverine's relation with his immortality and how a person can begin to cope with that.
"In many ways, the storyline makes me think even of Asimov's 'The Bicentennial Man,'" Mangold said. "The man who's here forever must watch mankind make all of its mistakes and also lose everyone they ever love because we all either get killed or die in some way. We pass and they endure. At some point, do you ever get tired of it?"
For Mangold, diving deep into Wolverine's character and giving him the time and development he deserves is something he says hasn't been possible in an X-Men movie so far.
When Aronofsky was attached to direct, one element of Wolverine's character that had been discussed was an intensified physicality and a more than rigorous workout routine for Hugh Jackman. The Aronofsky Wolverine was going to be large. Mangold was less clear about how he intended to treat that aspect of the character specifically, but commented on how Wolverine overall was going to be an entirely different animal.
"Hugh and I have an idea about when in Wolvie's life when we're finding him," Mangold said. "I think it's in a place that will be a little more intense than we've ever seen him. In that sense, we'll be examining his look and everything else through that prism. That would affect everything from his level of musculature to his look."
Ultimately for Mangold, he doesn't hope to reinvent the wheel with "The Wolverine," but to take a closer, more detailed look at a character known and loved by generations of comic book fans and movie-goers.
"I think that we are not rebooting, but we are going deeper into something than anyone's ever gone, and we're finding a way to do that in a really original way," Mangold said.
