Nigerian soul rocker Bez shines on the fourth episode of the first season of the talked-about Coke Studio Africa as he delivered a chilling rendition of AfroBeats legend Fela’s ‘Trouble Sleep’ popularly known as ‘Palava’. The episode which met rave reviews also saw afro-hip hop chairman M.I collaborate with Dela from Kenya and Kasongo from DRC on the sparking fusion performance of ‘Dezo Dezo’.

ADIEU TO A VETERAN: PA FATAI ROLLING DOLLARS PASSES ON



Veteran highlife musician, Fatai Olanrewaju Olagunji, popularly known as Rolling Dollar, passed on today. The artiste, who took ill about two weeks ago due protracted illness, was 85.

Born 22nd July 1926, Rolling Dollars was known for his verve and dexterity on the guitar. His zest for life and energy, even in old age, was also a marvel to all who beheld him performing.

The renowned Guitarist, Singer and Exponent of the Native Thumb Piano (Agidigbo) is the Veteran of West African Folk Music and the greatest living influence on West African Contemporary music, who in is his 64 year career directly spawned and mentored some of the most successful musicians in West Africa's history such as Ebenezer Obey and who directly influenced others like King Sunny Ade, Fela Kuti and many more.

He got a new lease of life after years in the doldrums, through Asiwaju Bola Tinubu who revived his career and fortunes, after the Liaison de France was brought back into public consciousness. Fatai, who was one of the highlife singers who made waves in the 60s and early 70s, had a lull in his fortunes before providence smiled on him.

Among his numerous hits is the globally popular tune “Won Kere Si Number”
