Check out the 10 things you need to know about MTN SongStar with Don Jazzy below…

1. The MTN SongStar Contest is only available to MTN Subscribers.

2. You have to Download and Install MTN SongStar from the MTN NextApp Store to participate.

3. Download tracks from the rich library of karaoke songs pre-installed on the App. Sing to the track, record and share to the MTN YouTube channel within the app.

4. As a contestant, you are to encourage friends and family to view your shared video(s) on the MTN YouTube channel.

5. Shared videos will be selected based on number of views.

6. The competition which started on September 6, 2013 and will end in November 29, 2013. During which there will be a monthly contest in which 10 monthly winners will emerge based on number of views generated. The contestant with the highest number of views in the month will be the overall winner for the month.

7. There will be monthly cut off dates: For the month of September on October 4, 2013, for October on November 1, 2013 and November on November 29, 2013.

8. There will be three finalists from the monthly play and another three selected by a wild card procedure from the general participants will compete for the ultimate prize of the Porsche Cayman and a record deal in a live performance contest.

9. This will be judged based on finesse and musical craftsmanship by the carefully selected panel of judges.

10. For now, the application is only available to smart phones with operating systems; Android OS versions 2.3 and above, Blackberry OS 6, 7, 10 and the Nokia Asha series

NEWS ALERT: MTN launches Songstar Karaoke music app contest in partnership with Don Jazzy

Over 80 million Nigerian youths are set for excitement and fun on their mobile devices with the launch of the MTN Songstar Karaoke mobile App on Friday, 6th September 2013, at the Golden Plaza, premises of the leading ICT Company -MTN. The app which allows customers on the MTN network to select, listen and sing to a karaoke version of any of their favorite songs, both locally and internationally, from any genre of music, also includes features that enable users to record and share their songs on Twitter, Facebook and YouTube.

According to the Chief Marketing Officer, MTN, Larry Annetts, “The music app is quite different from any other apps in its category, because it’s interactive, engaging and above all, social.” He added that the app contains various songs from different music genres ranging from Nigerian hip-hop, R & B, Afro hip-hop and many others that meet the desires of the current generation of youths, especially the mobile and trendy.

However, customers with android phones (Vs. 2.3 & above), Blackberry 6, 7, 10 and the Nokia Asha series will be the first beneficiaries of the musical app as the telecommunications giant is already working on incorporating all other smart-phone operating systems. Furthermore, in accordance with the gradual movement of the globe towards an overwhelming digital generation and MTN’s brand vision of leading her customers’ to a bold new digital world, the company has begun a new vista into the operation of the new digital world. The contest, which begins from now till the end of November promises exciting prizes for participants. The prizes range from a Porsche Cayman, Kia Cerato saloon cars, home theatre karaoke sets, smart phones, a record deal under Nigeria’s popular music producer- Don Jazzy and a lot of other rewards.

Explaining the mechanics of the Digital karaoke Contest, the Digital Marketing Specialist, Arafat Manliki hinted that participants must first download the MTN SongStar app on their mobile devices by visiting the MTN app store, http://nextapps.mtnonline.com/30736 or send songstar to 131. Participants are further expected to select and download any song of their choice from the library of karaoke songs, after which they will sing, record and share on the MTN YouTube channel within the application.

Participants are thereafter expected to encourage friends and family to view their uploads on the MTN YouTube channel as uploads will be picked and rated based on the number of views recorded. The 10 uploads with the highest number of views will be adjudged and selected for monthly prizes. The monthly prizes include a Kia Cerato saloon car, home theatre karaoke sets, smart phones and many other consolation prizes that will serve as incentives for participants.

Interestingly, at the grand finale in December, three participants with the overall highest number of views on YouTube, and another three selected through a wild-card procedure, will compete for the ultimate prize of a Porsche Cayman and a record deal under Don Jazzy.
