The commercial city of
Nnewi in
Anambra State was agog with musical frenzy when
Nigeria Breweries on
4th June 2011 brought
Star Trek 2011 (Nnewi Rampage)
The line up was super-rejuvenating :
Faze, MI, Flavour, J Martins, MC Loph and
The Beats. The host was the ever energetic
Gbenga Adeyinka the 1st and on the wheels of steel was
DJ Wonder kid DJ Tonny Blaze.
Right from the sound check in the afternoon the fun loving people of
Nnewi thronged out en-mass to catch a glimpse of the charged mini stadium of
Beverly Hills Hotel the venue of the concert.
By 6pm the crowd was overwhelming and the pace was set for a night of music jamboree.
To say there will ever be a
Star Trek without
Ace Comedian Gbenga Adeyinka that would be thrilling is an enigmatic thought as its more like the event was created to exist with him. When he mounted the stage and took hold of the microphone, a night of ecstatic fun was ignited and the crowd went berserk upon seeing him upclose once again. His antics, quibs and ever engaging mastery of compere knew no bounds as the crowd came to life.
In a perfect divinely set combo he and
DJ Wonder kid DJ Tonny Blaze took the crowd to high heavens as the host created a comical mood while the
Magical Fingers DJ Tonny Blaze spun his wheels of steel with calculated precision making the crowd feel like new heavenly admitees.
In the usual tradition of Nigeria's number one concert, indigenous upcoming talents were the ones to welcome
Star Trek to their town as they mounted the stage to showcase their own kinda swag.
2011 Star Quest winners The Beats came on stage and showed why they were crowned the latest
Star Quest gems.
Ibo rap sensation and award winning
MC Loph took to the stage and the evergreen melody
Osondi Owendi in which he featured
Flavour N'Abania filled the air. In his usual smooth moves, the
Ogbe Achicha 1 dropped his lyrical Ibo lines like butter on bread that by the time he left many young people present starting forming Ibo lines by heart.
In the words of
Gbenga Adeyinka the 1st, he is best described as the
Jewel of the Niger....
.The Oringo Master Flavour N'Abania's presence on stage that night was magical and spellbound. The fair complexioned and tall handsome talent from the eastern part of Nigeria climbed the stage and even the celestial bodies were blushing. His carriage and aura did it all even before he spoke a word through the microphone. His songs as provocative as they were could even bring the feet of a statute to life. Song after song he dazzled that by the time he left it took divine providence for security outfit
K-Squared personnel to contain the crowd.
Contemporary High-life Maestro J Martins set the stage ablaze with his live band crew to the dance delight of Nnewi people present. His precision performance made him and his band look like identical twins.
After an interlude of music by
DJ Tonny Blaze, the stage was filled with smoke from the smoke machine that the crowd was left in awe. When the host mentioned the next act, it was an overwhelming ovation that ushered in the
Rap Messiah....
Africa Rapper Number One....
Mister Incredible....
M.I. The diminutive
Rap-botic appeared in a hooded outfit from the smoky mist as the dj signaled him in with a tune from his high
twitter-trending MI2 album. When he removed his hood another ovation reverberated through the crowd. It was surprising even to him at the extent of follower-ship he had in
Nnewi that he called on anyone who could flow his lyrics. Three young youths mounted the stage and a night of surprises was unleashed. One of the youths who happened to be among the indigenous talent by name
Jekky B would never forget
Star Trek 2011 Nnewi Rampage. The young talent flowed word to word and matched attitude to attitude as he and
M.I literally battled for his lyrics that not only did he finished the rest of the act with
Mister Incredible but was openly invited to Lagos
Choc-City studios to record a rap song with
M.I...
.thank you Nigerian Breweries.
One name was ringing from the crowd.....
F.A.Z.E !!! Defunct
Plantashun Boiz golden-voiced high-pitch Prince....
Faze. In their custom accapella tradition,
Faze single-handedly started from backstage with his former group's melodious tunes and one could feel the chill and heart-warming frenzy in the atmosphere. As he mounted the stage it took even a more profound divine interventioned for
K-Square to contain the frenzy-driven crowd from pushing through the security barricade to the stage. When he started out his act the crowd yelled, cried, danced and begged for more. He even performed singles from his forthcoming album like the sure club banger
In the Mood,
Good Wife,
Relate etc. The moment he dropped the microphone the good people of
Nnewi could not be more grateful to
Nigerian Breweries for bringing back
Star Trek to them.
