Fielder-Civil, 30, was reportedly found in his bed choking by his partner, Sarah Aspin, last Friday and is on life support. The recovering drug addict had gone out drinking the day before with a friend and Aspin, mother of Fielder-Civil's 15-month-old son, who said that she believed he might have taken an illicit substance.
"The doctors say they don't know the prognosis," she said. "They said they put him in a coma to help him and due to infection." She said they had been "so happy" before the incident and had even talked about marriage the day before his drinking binge. But when he staggered home on Friday she called paramedics after being concerned about his slurred speech. When the EMT's arrived they noticed that Fielder-Civil had swallowed his tongue, choked on his vomit and that his left lung had stopped working.
After a tumultuous courtship and marriage to Winehouse in 2007, which included a series of arrests on drug and assault charges for both, Fielder-Civil was jailed in 2008 for assault and again last year for burglary and imitation firearm possession.
"I'm praying he'll survive, but I'm having to prepare myself that he may never wake up," said Aspin, who met Fielder-Civil in rehab three years ago. "I am devastated, just devastated, at what has happened. I just want to cry all the time, but I have to be strong for our son, Jack."
Meanwhile Blake Fielder-Civil's mother says her son embarked on a deadly drinking and drug binge after reading text messages his late wife sent him while he was in prison.
His mother, Georgette, has now revealed that Fielder-Civil recently found a number of previously unread text messages which Amy Winehouse sent him before her death and the messages left him overcome with grief.
Georgette claims the "Back to Black" singer asked if she could be godmother to Fielder-Civil's son Jack, now 15 months, who was born to another woman after their split.
She said "He had messages on his phone from Amy which he only got recently. He didn't have the phone in prison and he picked up messages from her when he was released. She said she wanted to be Jack's godmother. The grief for Amy started again. I fear he may have been trying to take his own life... If he pulls through it may be two months before he is discharged. The worrying thing is if he then goes back to his substance misuse. Next time he won't make it, there is no doubt about that."
