OlaZee (real name - Olanrewaju Larry Lawal,
pronounced as Ola-Zee) is a song-writer and a student at one of the
universities in Canada, who originally hails from Ogun State, but grew up and
lived in the Oil City, Warri, Delta state since the tender age of 4; he had his
primary and high school education at Warri, after which he went to Canada for
further education. Sparking up interest for musical expression started from his
family home where he grew up with his parents who are big fans of good,
entertaining music; he got accustomed to the Nigerian and African music scene
in general, listening to great acts like Fela, Pasuma, Obesere, Wasiu Ayinde,
Lagbaja, Vybz Kartel, D'banj, Movado, Sinzu and all other great likes, and soon
fell in love with music ever since. While growing up, OlaZee was one of those
kids who settle down to listen, write and practice the lyrics of some of his
favourite American Hip-Hop acts during his leisure time.
At a tender age of 16, OlaZee already started making
music, doing basic Rap freestyles on instrumentals and recording himself on a
laptop; he learnt the basics and structures of composing and delivering on a
track with energy all by himself and used to be known as Larry Boy from way
back. Fast forward a few years later, he decided to go into a professional
studio, to experiment his talent; he learnt a lot working with studio producers
and music experts at such a young age and a few months later, after recording
and gathering a compilation of demos, he later on realized his uniqueness and
originality in his type of music. Ever since then, OlaZee described his kind of
music as Afro-Hop, a mixture of Afro-Dancehall and Hip-Hop, with a blend of
English, Pidgin English and Yoruba lyrics.
Currently working with Magic City Records producer,
Frankie Free, he decides to let out this offering titled "Everyday Is A
Holiday", alongside the Chimbaleen-produced "Money &
Efizzy". On "Money & Efizzy", OlaZee displays his dexterity
on the Afro-Hop infusion with catchy lyrics and verses which sprout creativity
as he delivers the right sound for such an excellent vibe whilst on
"Everyday Is A Holiday", he teams up with the South-South heavyweight
producer, Frankie Free, to deliver a party tune with energetic flows.
According to OlaZee, most of his beats are sent to
him via e-mail and recorded professionally by himself, then sent back for
mixing via e-mail as well based on the fact that he is currently an unsigned
artiste, having no access to a studio in Canada that will provide his Afro-Hop
sound; he says: "I know I have the talent, I just want the opportunity to
make the highlights; lyrics is all I write, music is what I love and do - I am
here to steady preserve and unleash my uniqueness”.
He springs up lines like “money in the bank and I am not a
banker, and now I am a ruler ruling like Obama, na based on my mula some say I
be fraudster. I nor even get maga, boys con de anger dem say I too de
swagga" and “Jaguda level like say I get blog site, I’m
NotJustOk, I’m absolutely alright”; the artwork for this material was
duly rendered by graphixED.
