16th October 2018 was the annual World Food Day and this year it was tagged #Worldfoodday2018.
The amiable Creative
Director of TheDabiGal teamed up with “Dreams from Slums” crew to touch the
lives of 20 families living in the slums of Ajegunle in Lagos State of Nigeria.
It was an exciting experience plus seeing those thankful faces made it all
worth it.
To celebrate World Food Day; which is a day of
action dedicated to tackling global hunger and as part of Dreams From The Slum
Empowerment Initiative commitment to eradicate hunger starting from local
communities, the Dreams from Slums crew collaborated with TheDabiGal crew to
provide and share food items like bags of rice, beans, jerry cans of groundnut
oil, onion, tomatoes, salt and food seasoning maggie to 20 no-income and low
income families who live in the slum.
“We
believe that when children feed well, they will be well equipped to learn
better and this is why through DFTS Food Bank we commemorated World Food Day
2018 by providing food items to their parents”
says the team.
“Most
children living in the slum go to school without breakfast because they are
either from a no-income or low income family hence their parents’ inability to
meet their very basic needs especially feeding. This has made more children to
miss school and end up dropping out of school.
Providing
food items for families is a way of curbing this and we are grateful to
everyone that supported”.
