SPECIAL FEATURE: Wande Coal’s break-up with Don Jazzy shocked me – D’ Prince

While reacting to Wande Coal and Don Jazzy’s break-up with Mavin Record, Charles Enebeli, also known as D’Prince, in a recent interview with TRIBUNE disclosed that the break up shocked him.

“This development is a shock to all of us because Wande Coal is like our brother. Basically, we will keep the flag flying. No hard feelings and no bad blood. Like I said, we are all brothers. We will definitely find a way to get things sorted out.” he said

You are a member of Mavin group. How do you feel about the goings-on in the group?

Mavin is not just my label, it is my family. It is my home and I am happy with it. I am enjoying my contract because I am working with a great set of people who share the same vision with me about my career. So, everybody is working to take the label to an enviable height and I know God is in control of our affairs. From the boss to the least person on the label, we all work together as one big family. We always make sure we produce good music that people will always say good things about. You must have noticed that we know how to do it, that’s why everybody appreciates anything that comes out of that label. What matters in life is how happy you are with what you are doing and who you are working with. For me, I am very happy and satisfied with what I am doing under Mavin records.

Are you happy with the way things are going, considering the fact it was formed after the breakup of Mo’hits?

There is nothing special about it. You heard in the news just like I did. It is one of those things that happen with any successful record label. It is not peculiar to Mavin. Mavin remains stronger than before. Everybody is working and we are moving ahead. That somebody left or that somebody may leave tomorrow, does not mean we should all stand down and look. This is one big happy family; whatever happens, we have to stick together so that we can fashion out the way forward; not to dwell on what happened in the past. That will only take us back.

What does this unfortunate development portend for Mavin as a group?

You know this is like a business and you can’t always foresee what might happen to you or your partner. You won’t even know where your relationship is heading to until it ends one day. But at the end of the day, you just have to give thanks to God for the gift of life because that’s what matters to me. As long as I have my life, I can always find my way through whatever challenge that comes my way. You can’t run away from things like this, but your ability to deal with it is the most important thing. You will agree with me that at the end of the day, you have got only your life to look after. I f you lose it, you are finished. I just thank God for my life, that’s all I can say. T

Will this not affect your relationship with Wande Coal?

I don’t see it that way. Wande is my brother. We see each other at least every other day. I have no problem with Wande. The relationship remains as cordial as before. If you know the kind of relationship that exists between us, I am sure you won’t be saying this. That he decided to leave does not mean it will affect our relationship; it won’t. Break-up or no break-up, you have to be thankful to God for the good life He has blessed you with. Whether we like it or not, we remain one big family. From D’Banj to Don Jazzy, Wande Coal, me, Dr Sid and Tiwa Savage, I want our fans to continue to pray for us. It will mean a lot to the group right now.

Is there any difference between the defunct Mo’hits and the current Mavin group?

When you hear Mavin, you hear Mo’hits because this is something that has been on for a long time. We didn’t just start yesterday. People love us because they know we will give them positive music as we have been churning it out since day one. My last album is barely a year old and you can see how far it has gone.

MTN‘s quest to sign almost every relevant artiste out there isn’t over. The telecoms giants have now added Africa’s number one producer The Enigmatic Don Jazzy and younger brother D’Prince a.k.a Mr Goody Bag Frenzy to the list of brand ambassadors for the company.

Don Jazzy, CEO of Mavin Records as well as label signee D’Prince disclosed this via social networks Twitter and Instagram.

The Enigmatic Don Jazzy and Mr Goody Bag D’Prince are however not the first set of Mavin Records acts to sign up with MTN. A few weeks ago, the delectable Mavin Records 1st Lady Tiwa Savage penned her own deal, reportedly worth close to N25m.

Other MTN ambassadors include KCEE, Wizkid, Davido, Iyanya, Praiz, Chidinma and reportedly iMike.

VIDEO PREMIERE: SUPER SAVER - SETTY J FT D'PRINCE

911 ENTERTAINMENT unveils the video for the hot single, “Super Saver” by Abogun Seyifunmi Joshua a.k.a Setty J.  The song is a debut from the artiste and features D’Prince of Mavin Records. The video was shot in Lagos-Nigeria by the very creative Clarence Peters.

Setty J hails from Ilepete LGA, Ondo State, Nigeria. He is a songwriter, dancer and a performing artiste. He started singing and dancing since age12 but he established his interest to do music professionally after his secondary education in 2007. Seyi, as friends and family call him, is the second child of his mother (he comes from a polygamous home). He has six direct siblings but one is late now. His music influence cuts across various experiences and artistes like Michael Jackson, Joe, Bow Wow and D’BanJ. Hence, the diversity of the sounds he grew on, explains why his music will attract a very wide audience.

Defining his music, he says, “My music is a mix of Afro-Pop, RnB, and Hip-Hop. The fact that I’ve had the opportunity to visit a lot of countries excites me because it reflects in my music.”

In 2011, Setty J got admitted into Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. He met the CEO of 911 Entertainment along the line and the latter signed him based on foresight. The sign up has yielded works with artistes like W4, Oritse Femi, Sound Sultan, Durella, Iyanya and more.

Setty J is currently defining himself as a brand and one of the works in progress is his debut single “Super Saver”. Speaking on why he featured D’Prince, he says, “I’ve always admired D’Prince’s vibe and I thought it would be an honour to have him on a song and Super Saver is it, for me.”

More songs are still in stock and according to Setty J’s management; M4 Synergy, 911 Entertainment will unfold more great songs by Setty J as time goes on".

Houston's Best Weekend Concerts: Industry Nite in Houston

Even with Houston's considerable African immigrant population, concerts by African artists remain rare outside iFest and the odd SPA event. That alone makes Saturday's show sponsored by Spinlet, a San Francisco-based company that offers digital distribution to emerging West African talent - mostly Nigerians here - worth checking out.

Heading up this tour is Tuface Idibia (better known as 2Face), a former member of the Plantashun Boyz who has become a popular hip-hop/R&B singer in his own right. Joining him is Ice Prince, who was recently called "Nigeria's hottest rapper" for his dancehall-ish style; D'Prince, younger brother of producer/songwriter/music-biz mogul Don Jazzy; and Seyi Shey, now on her own after a tenure in UK soul-pop group From Above.
