D'Banj's New York Concert ft Mo' Hits Crew at Irving Plaz

AND HE MAKES THE NEW YORK TIMES NEWS

A version of this review appeared in print on February 23, 2012, on page C5 of the New York edition with the headline: Undulating in Sequins, He’s a Pop Star for Sure.

D'Banj, the Nigerian pop star, headlined a show of African music at Irving Plaza on Sunday night.
By JON CARAMANICA

Published: February 23, 2012

There was talk of kokolets all Sunday night at Irving Plaza. D'Banj, the Nigerian pop star who was headlining the show, boasted, "I have too many kokolets around the world." Later on he wondered, "Can I get two kokolets that can dance better than my dancers?"

If it seemed like D'Banj, one of the quickest-rising stars in Africa, has a one-track mind - kokolets, in his lingo, are beautiful women - that wasn't far from the truth. As a style, his was as monomaniacal in focus as Miami bass, one lusty come-on after the next.

He is at the forefront of an emergent style loosely called Afrobeats by some, a mélange of hip-hop, R&B and other traditionally urban sounds with elements that hark back to older African styles.

In practice on Sunday all that meant was that D'Banj, backed by a live band, was a thoroughly accessible pop star. He emerged in a gold-sequined dinner jacket and began the night with a harmonica solo of "My Love Is Your Love," the austere Whitney Houston hit. Before long he was undulating around the stage, his microphone at his crotch when it wasn't at his mouth.

Switching back and forth between singing and rapping, primarily in English, D'Banj was never less than enthusiastic, an entertainer above all, and one used to much larger stages than this one.

Accordingly, the show had the feeling of a significant event. The crowd was slickly dressed, skewing young and African. Outside before the show a correspondent for the Lagos radio station Cool 96.9 FM was recording a report on the scene.

Along with the producer Don Jazzy, D'Banj recently signed to Kanye West's G.O.O.D. Music label, a rare example of a mainstream contemporary African star being given an opportunity to work with an American record label. Mr. West recently performed with D'Banj in London.

But that's just one step in an evolution that's been unfolding for some time. Mo' Hits Records, D'Banj's home label, has a range of young talent, and during this show several label mates shared the stage with him: Don Jazzy, the brawny crooner Wande Coal, the limber dancer Dr. Sid (who came onstage to Dr. Dre's "I Need a Doctor"), the quick-spitting rapper Ikechukwu, the deeply charismatic D'Prince, and more.

D'Banj was the main attraction, but there was plenty of stage sharing among the crew. Wande Coal was particularly impressive, sometimes attacking a song with force, other times caressing it with a soft coo. D'Banj was maybe less nuanced, but that was very much the point. After one song that sounded like what would have happened if Michael Jackson had recorded a Nigerian highlife record, he shrugged and said, "It's not my fault that I'm bad."

KISS...Bad Gurl Gone Gaga

I'M A BIGZ GIRLZ, the street lingo made popular by award winning actress-cum-producer Funke Akindele from the also award winning Nigerian Movie titled Jenifa (1 & 2) could not have had a better musical rendition than the one that took the Nigerian musical scene by storm titled GBOGBO BIGZ GIRLZ courtesy of a female group also named BIGZ GIRLZ.

The group made up of Kiss and Sheeba took the female musical act to a different level when in 2008 they dropped the hit song which saw them become the darlings of the female folk in the industry. The song was produced by award winning producer/musician Big Lo who laid a piercing production that sent waves through the country that the ladies had something to offer. The group had under their kitty songs like "One Mic, Not Afraid, Me I Like You and Baby Mama" but their much anticipated album never saw the light of the day. Unfortunately in 2010 the group disintegrated and thus was the rebirth of the sexy diva KISS.

When gorgeous bad gurl-looks mix up with unbelievable singing talents, what you have is a package that’s simply irresistible and that package is no other than the diva Kiss.

Born Rachel Ferguson Onuoha, the diminutive talent who hails from Abia State, Nigeria is a perfect example of the saying that mighty things come in small packages. Blessed with a strong vocal prowess likened to that of American award winning singer Toni Braxton, Kiss captures the heart of many whenever she takes hold of a microphone be it in a studio booth or stage.

The dark complexion diva has rendered her voice on songs for the likes of Big Lo (This Love Be Like Super Story), Danny Boi, Kesh to mention a few and has performed on such high rated events like Kennis Music Easter Fiesta, MTN Dinner, Green Ball Awards 2010 to mention a few.

In 2012, the petite singer went ahead to do a remix of the song "Me I Like You" which she originally wrote and was produced by super producer twins known as E-Twinz. The song says one thing, Kiss has one calling and that calling was her music. With a soulful voice and a mixture of Soul and Pop, her music and sound takes you through a journey of life. This soulful and young singer is here to captivate the world with her unique style and much is to be expected of her musical prowess. She is got the voice of angel, look of a goddess and determination to take her straight to the top.

She draws inspiration from greats like Jill Scott, Whitney Houston, Rihanna, Macy Gray and Dido. As she walks in through the doors of musical stardom to unveil that true part of her, the world can expect to see the elements of raw unleashed talents and Kiss intends to bring that sensation with her own style of Soul Pop.

"Are You Ready to  be entertained....Kiss....Me I Like Don Jazzy, I Like D'Banj, I Like Banky, Me I Like TuuuBaba.....ME I LIKE YOU..."

D'Large in Secret Dating Scandal (Paris Hilton & Barbara)

Super Model Paris Hilton & D"Large at Harrods

D'Large and Super Model Barbara at his estate
D'LARGE IN SECRET ROMANCE WITH TOP MODELS (PARIS HILTON & BARBARA)

Known for their penchant for standing out in their field of endeavour, Nigerian artistes would ever be in the frontline of media tabloids. The likes of Tuface Idibia, D'Banj, P Square, Wizkid, 9ice, Olu Maintain, Wande Coal, Skuki, Timaya, Eldee, Ruggedman etc have always been known besides their musical careers for doing one thing or the other that makes their fans across the globe go gaga with awe with regards to their private life (women). The latest to join this league of controversial musicians is no other than Europe-based Nigerian artiste Solomon Onyebuchi Nwosu better known as D'Large.
Yes he is at it again but this time instead of his music, we have it on good authority that there is a tough ruse going on between a Europe-based top model by name Barbara and another controversial United States of America top model Paris Hilton. What most may no be privy to is that D'Large is the cause of this cold war between Barbara and Paris Hilton.

The soft-spoken and calm dreadlocks-trotting contemporary Hip-Pop/Rap Dancehall sensation who came into limelight with his hit single 'Marry Dem' (featuring Ghanian Sandaz Black) that had a tremendously loved video; is known to be having a hush hush romance with both ladies unknown to them. All hell broke loose when pictures of both ladies in separate flicks with D'Large leaked unto the internet. He is having a secret affair with Paris whom he goes shopping with in such highbrow fashion spots like Harrods on one hand and still maintains a juicy rumpus with Barbara whom is always by his side.
When our private source was pressed with more information as to the extent of the beef, he/she did not want to be quoted but assured us that this is a serious issue. Attempts to elicit comments from either ladies are still in progress.
He is believed to be currently in Nigeria putting finishing touches to his forthcoming album which has songs like Marry Dem ft Sandaz Black, Na Na Na ft Mallam Spicey, Do The Jegg etc.

We also tried his cell number in Nigeria and his personal assistant says they have no comment on the issue. Is he in hiding? Doing the Jegg on these ladies or Marrying Dem? Dunno but we will keep you posted with details when we scoop more juicy gist concerning the secret romance thingy *winks*

Thisday Awards for Excellence 2012

The Event Proper

Wife of former British Prime Minister and distinguished Queen’s Counsel, Cherie Blair, arrived Sunday from the United Kingdom as the special guest speaker at the 17th THISDAY Annual Awards, scheduled to take place Monday evening at the Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Mrs. Blair arrived ahead of former United States President, Bill Clinton, who is expected to arrive Monday to headline the awards ceremony and in addition to delivering the keynote lecture will hand out awards to this year’s recipients alongside Mrs. Blair.
Mrs. Blair arrived on board a British Airways flight from London, which landed in Lagos at 6.23pm and after security formalities to a battery of photographers at the departure hall at 7.15 pm, accompanied by a retinue of aides.
Clad in a simple striped black turtle neck sweatshirt and white pants, Mrs. Blair looked relaxed and walked casually like one very familiar with her environment.
Before she boarded a Land Cruiser sports utility vehicle in a motorcade that whisked her away from the airport, the wife of the former British PM took time to exchange pleasantries with everyone that facilitated her arrival at the airport.
Clinton and Blair will feature prominently in this year’s awards that will honour 55 Nigerian women of distinction and 25 other Nigerians who have distinguished themselves in their various spheres of endeavour as Lifetime Achievement honourees.
Blair is a leading human rights lawyer and a passionate campaigner for women’s equality across the world. Her determination to help women overcome prejudice has seen her visit and speak in many countries.
She also actively promotes work-life balance policies, having herself experienced the pressures of combining a demanding career with being the wife of Tony Blair and a mother of four.
There was nothing in Cherie Blair’s background to suggest such a distinguished career. Having been brought up by a single mother in a modest home in Liverpool, she was the first member of her family to attend university. But having won a place at the London School of Economics, she graduated with first class honours in law and went on to top her class in her Bar examinations.
She met and married Tony Blair in 1980 when they were both lawyers. They have four children, the youngest, Leo, being the first born to a serving prime minister for over a century.
Cherie Blair combined her legal career with bringing up the family and, in 1995, was appointed Queen’s Counsel as the most senior lawyers in England are known. She specialises in employment and human rights law and is regularly asked to appear in courts abroad. She also serves as a part-time judge.
William (Bill) Jefferson Clinton was the first president on the platform of the Democratic Party in six decades to be elected twice – first in 1992 and then in 1996. Under his leadership, the country enjoyed the strongest economy in a generation and the longest economic expansion in U.S. history, including the creation of more than 22 million jobs.
After leaving the White House, President Clinton established the William J. Clinton Foundation with the mission to strengthen the capacity of people in the US and throughout the world to meet the challenges of global interdependence. Today the Foundation has staff and volunteers around the world working to improve lives through several initiatives, including the Clinton HIV/AIDS Initiative (now the Clinton Health Access Initiative, a separate non-profit organisation) which is helping two million people living with HIV/AIDS access lifesaving drugs.
Other initiatives – including the Clinton Climate Initiative, the Clinton Hunter Development Initiative, and the Clinton Giustra Sustainable Growth Initiative – are applying a business-oriented approach worldwide to fight climate change and develop sustainable economic growth in Africa and Latin America.
Meanwhile, the 80s funk and R&B U.S. based group, Earth Wind and Fire, which was supposed to perform at the awards, will not be performing as planned. Their performance, according to their handlers, has been postponed due to logistics and scheduling issues.

AYODEL - FUJI JAZZ MAESTRO

Ayodel: Guitarist/Vocalist/Composer

“Music is a life source for me, I breathe and live music”. These are the words of the very talented and vibrant young lead guitarist, Ayodel.  Ayodele affectionately called “Ayodel” is originally from Nigeria but currently based in Johannesburg, South Africa. He became involved in the Music Industry at a very early age mainly as a choir member in his church and has since grown to work with and among great musicians.
The journey started in 1991 when he joined the late Evangelist SUNNY OKOSUNS Band and started doing what he loves to do.
And his first show with the Band was the "CHILDREN OF AFRICA CONCERT" that hosted great musicians around the world with the likes of COOL AND GANG, COMMODORES, RITA MARLEY, SHABA RANKS, MARIAM MAKEBA, MANUE DIBANGO, KING SUNNY ADE, MAJEK FASHEK, SUNNY OKOSUNS, THIRD WORLD and a whole lot of other great musicians on the musical train. He toured excessively with the band round Europe and African countries.
Ayodel’s talent is God given and rare as he plays different genre of music thus pushing the boundaries of stereotypes. His passion and conviction for what he does is felt through all his musical works.

PROJECTS
He recorded six albums with the Late Sonny Okosuns and has produced other musicians.
In 2004 he recorded his first album titled MAJO MAYO which is a combination of Gospel, Afro and Juju music
His latest release "Double Portion" is a special tribute to the Lord for all that He has done in Ayodel’s life. It is a dedication to the Almighty for all the favour bestowed upon Ayodel in the past years. The music is a blend of Gospel, Soul and Jazz with an African twist. It is a phenomenal masterpiece with a variety of groovy sounds that can be enjoyed at any given time and place. It is a true reflection of the God given talent. It is a pointer that this young talent is bound for great heights.

PERFORMANCES
While in South Africa the soft spoken juju maestro has performed in various concerts and events/venues such as THE BLUEROOMS, BASSLINE, MOYO to mention a few. And has also shared the stage with the likes of MALAIKA, MXO, KUNLE AYO, SIHPOKAZI and other South African great musicians.
With the passion, love, experience and skill he acquired over the years in music he came up with his first JAZZ album in 2007, which took him about a year and five months to round off. It came out a resounding success. The album is a combination of Afro, Smooth Jazz with West African and Gospel feel that is for all walks of life irrespective of inclination.

STYLE
In his words, "I really don't play one particular brand of music. I approach my songs the way they come to me then I decide the style I want to use to send my message across to people but my passion to be a Jazz guitarist I'd say always influences my music and style of play".

INFLUENCE
I get inspiration from above as God is the Giver of all Gifts. I also get inspired by other  greats around the world like George Benson, Earl Klugh, Norman Brown, Pat Martino etc.

Ode To A Nightingale...Rest In The Lord Whitney Houston

Multiple Grammy Award Winning Songstress Whitney Houston, whose soaring voice lifted her to the top of the pop music world but whose personal decline was fueled by years of drug use, died on Saturday afternoon in a Beverly Hills hotel room at the age of 48. The pop superstar died on the eve of the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles at the same hotel where her mentor, record mogul Clive Davis was holding an annual pre-event party featuring scores of music industry celebrities.
A dramatic scene unfolded at the Beverly Hilton hotel as guests arriving for the party expressed shock at her death, while reporters swarmed the hotel, fans gathered outside to light candles in her memory and helicopters hovered overhead.
Beverly Hills police said they were called to the Beverly Hilton at around 3:43pm PST, and fire department personnel who were already at the location responded immediately. Houston was in her fourth-floor room but was unresponsive to CPR, and she was pronounced dead at 3:55pm.
"She has been positively identified by friends and family (who) were with her at the hotel, and next of kin have already been notified," Lieutenant Mark Rosen told reporters. Police said there were no obvious signs of criminal intent. Los Angeles County coroners removed Houston's body from the hotel after midnight through a backdoor to avoid the crush of media set up to cover her shocking death. Typically, coroners conduct an autopsy within a day or two, at which point they might release some preliminary information about the death. If drugs or alcohol are involved, however, an official cause of death would not be released until after toxicology tests, which could take six to eight weeks.

Brilliant career
Tributes poured in from around the world for a singer whose remarkable vocal power and range produced some of the most memorable music of her generation, including her signature hit, I Will Always Love You.
"I don't have to mask my emotion in front of a room full of so many dear friends," Davis told a somber crowd at his gala dinner and party just hours after Houston's death.
"I am personally devastated by the loss of someone who has meant so much to me for so many years."
Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy, which runs the Grammys, told the audience at Davis's party that Jennifer Hudson would sing a tribute to Houston at Sunday night's Grammy Awards.
"We will do something appropriate tomorrow, and nothing could be more appropriate than having Jennifer Hudson sing on stage for Whitney," Portnow said.
"In our community, we celebrate things ... let's celebrate Whitney Houston."
Outside the hotel in the wealthy enclave of Beverly Hills, a phalanx of hotel security personnel guarded the perimeter to prevent reporters and fans from entering.
Some of Houston's admirers gathered on the sidewalk, lighting candles and singing her songs.

Over the course of a 30-year career in which she established herself as one of the most-admired and influential singers of her time, Houston won six Grammys, 30 Billboard awards and 22 American Music Awards. She released seven studio albums and sold some 170 million CD's, singles and videos.
The soundtrack for a hit movie in which she starred, The Boydguard, was among the best-selling soundtracks in movie history.
Her 1985 debut, Whitney Houston, became the best-selling debut album by a female act at that time, and spawned several hits including How Will I Know.
Her second studio CD, 1987's Whitney, became the first album by a female artist to debut at No 1 on the Billboard 200 albums chart.
She crossed over from music success to TV and movies, appearing in The Bodyguard (1992), as well as Waiting to Exhale (1995) and The Preacher's Wife (1996).
Born in Newark, New Jersey, in 1963, Houston was inspired to perform as a child by soul singers in her family, including mother Cissy Houston and cousins Dionne Warwick and the late Dee Dee Warwick.
Her godmother was Aretha Franklin.
"I just can't talk about it now," Franklin said in a statement.
"It's so stunning and unbelievable. I couldn't believe what I was reading coming across the TV screen. My heart goes out to Cissy, her daughter Bobbi Kris, her family and Bobby (Brown)."
Personal turmoil By the early 1990s, Houston reigned as the queen of pop, but her critical and commercial success on stage was accompanied by an increasingly troubled personal life.
In 1992 she married singer Bobby Brown, who had a bad-boy reputation, and their tumultuous 14 years together were marred by drug abuse and domestic violence.
In 2000, she and Brown were stopped at an airport in Hawaii and security guards discovered marijuana in their luggage.
In a 2002 TV interview, she admitted using marijuana, cocaine, alcohol and prescription drugs.
The pair also starred in a reality TV series, Being Bobby Brown, which painted an often unflattering portrait of the couple.
The last 10 years of Houston's life were dominated by drug use, rumors of relapses and trips to rehab.
She launched a comeback tour in 2009, and in April 2010 she called media reports she was using drugs again "ridiculous." In May 2011, Houston enrolled in a drug and alcohol rehab program.
Despite her personal troubles, Houston commanded great affection among her music industry colleagues, and emotional tributes flooded the media in the hours after news broke of her death.
"I am absolutely heartbroken at the news of Whitney's passing," legendary music producer Quincy Jones said in a statement.
"... I always regretted not having had the opportunity to work with her. She was a true original and a talent beyond compare. I will miss her terribly."
Barbra Streisand said in a statement: "She had everything, beauty, a magnificent voice. How sad her gifts could not bring her the same happiness they brought us."
Pop star Rihanna posted on Twitter "No words, just tears."

And Ex-Husband Bobby Brown weeps for Her.....

"Second, I would like to say, 'I love you Whitney.' The hardest thing for me to do is come on this stage."

Bobby Brown took to the stage just hours after Whitney Houston's death, amid reports that the late singer's ex-husband was devastated by the news of her passing.
Brown was scheduled to perform in Mississippi as part of New Edition. The controversial R&B star was said to be in "crying fits" over the news, and broke down shortly after taking the stage.
"First of all, I want to tell you that I love you all,” he said to the crowd. "And Secondly, I would like to say, 'I love you Whitney.' The hardest thing for me to do is come on this stage."
In another mini-tribute during an intermission in the show, Houston's 1985 single "You Give Good Love" blared over the speakers.
Brown and Houston were married for 14 years, and the relationship's turbulent moments played themselves out in the public eye. Brown was charged with misdemeanor battery after a 2003 incident. Houston appeared in court with a bruise on her neck but stayed by Brown's side.
In a later interview with Oprah, Houston described Brown as her "drug," explaining that "whatever we did, we did it together." (Brown has often been portrayed as a corrupting influence on Houston, who fought a long battle with substance abuse).
Houston's self-titled debut album, released in 1985, sold 25 million copies worldwide. In total, she released seven albums and three film soundtracks; a winner of six Grammys, Houston sold over 200 million albums and singles worldwide. She earned 30 Billboard Awards, 22 American Music Awards and two Emmy Awards.

J-Lo strips nude for new perfume launch

Glowing by J-Lo
To celebrate her 18th fragrance, Jennifer Lopez has unveiled her sexiest advert yet - and unveiled is the operative word.
The 42-year-old mother of twins Emme and Max, three , poses totally naked in the image for the new scent, Glowing.

Oiled up with her long hair soaking wet, the American Idol judge sits cross-legged, her glossy limbs strategically preserving her modesty.
It's very revealing, nobody can deny that... but strangely, it's been released at a time when J-Lo has announced that she tries to stay away from 'the media.'
Lopez - who is currently dating 24-year-old backing dancing Casper Smart following her split from husband Marc Anthony last July - admits it's hard to cope with all the constant speculation about her life and craves privacy.
She said: 'It's hard sometimes, I'm not going to lie. I try to stay away from the media as much as I can.
Sometimes. I try not to take it too personally, because I don't think they do it just to me.
'But as a human being it feels like that. You feel like you're the only one being picked on. But the truth is, they pick on everybody.
'They really don't discriminate. I try to concentrate on all the great things I have going on in my life.'
While she sometimes finds being in the spotlight hard Jennifer says she wouldn't stop her children from perusing careers in the media if that's what they wanted.
She told WWD: 'Here's what I know about doing what I do - and obviously their dad is the same way. If they're going to do it, there's nothing I can do to stop them - and I'll support them.
'But just like my mom, I'm going to make them go to school and I'm going to let them make that decision when they're old enough to make that decision. I don't want them to be in the business at a young age. I just don't think they need that burden, that pressure. 'They should have a normal life - go to school, play, grow up.
'They should have a family life, as solid a foundation as I can give them. If they want to go off and be artists or singers or dancers or pilots or architects or anything - then they have my full support.
'My mom couldn't stop me from [getting into this industry], I won't be able to stop them from doing it.'
She also spoke about her new product, she said: 'Glowing is such a clean fragrance. That's what I've always been about...At the essence, it's still natural, earthy, clean and real, but a little different side of that. It's the woodsy side of it, which I think is kind of New York-y, darker and sexier.'

Glowing, which also include top notes of bergamot, cypress and mandarin, among other scents, will make its debut in early May

Macaulay Culkin needs help

He was once the mischievous, cherubic star of the hugely successful Home Alone movies.
However, Macaulay Culkin, now 31, appeared dishevelled and emaciated as he greeted fans in New York on Wednesday.
With his straggly goatee beard and messy hair, he looked gaunt as he sipped from an energy drink.
And last night he pulled out of his monthly deejay gig Le Poisson Rouge in New York City's West Village.

'He's here all the time. He comes pretty often,' a club employee told America's People magazine.
'Tonight, something just came up and he couldn't make it.'
But his spokesperson insists there is no need for concern, saying in a statement: 'Macaulay Culkin is in perfectly good health.'
His appearance was a far cry from the cute youngster who shot to international fame playing cheeky Kevin McCallister in the 1990 family favourite.
Culkin was once Hollywood’s biggest child star, commanding £4million a film by the time he starred in 1994’s Richie Rich.
But the young actor soon hit troubled times and has weathered a number of personal tragedies, including the death of his sister Dakota in a car crash and of his half-sister Jennifer Adamson from a drug overdose.
His career then came to a halt after he was embroiled in a messy financial dispute between his parents Christopher Culkin and Patricia Brentup.
In 1998 a judge fired his father - who was his manager - and handed control of his vast personal fortune to an accountant until he turned 18. After a hiatus, he returned to films in 2000.
However, none of his subsequent movies have come near to matching the success of the Home Alone series.
'I'm the most out-of-work actor I know,' he once said.

In 2004 he was arrested after police stopped a car in which he was a passenger and found more than a half-ounce of marijuana and several tablets of Xanax, a prescription medication used to treat depression and panic disorders. Beyonce and Jay Z trademark Blue Ivy's name

Talk about serious business parenthood.

She appeared on her father's single at just a few hours old, so it comes as no surprise that Beyoncé and Jay-Z's daughter Blue Ivy is a brand in the making.
According to reports in the US, the new parents have moved to trademark their one-month-old baby's name.
The power-couple have filed an application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office to protect Blue Ivy's name against others using it.
The application was filed under Beyoncé's company BGK Trademark Holdings and is still pending, according to MTV.
If approved Beyoncé, 30, and Jay-Z, 42, could use their daughter's name for any brand or endorsements, but it is more likely they took action in order to prevent others cashing in on their already famous offspring.
Family law attorney Vikki Ziegler told MTV: 'Seeking the trademark forestalls competitors from using the child's name and or third parties from attempting to sell the baby's name back to the couple. They are likely trying to protect what they rightfully own or created, shall we say, by trademarking Blue Ivy's name.'
The Patent Office has already denied two attempts by other parties to trademark the name since Blue Ivy was born on January 7, noting that the name belonged to a 'very famous infant' as the reason for the rejection.
A spokesperson for the couple is yet to respond to request for comment.
While little Miss Carter awaits the decision on her trademarked name, the pampered baby is being wheeled about in a very posh pram.
Don't even think of it...

And we mean it....

According to Us Weekly, BeyoncĂ©'s BFF Gwyneth Paltrow splashed out £880 on a black Bugaboo Chameleon stroller for the baby - but that's something of a downgrade compared to the other extravagant transport at Blue Ivy's disposal.
The new parents reportedly paid £400,000 on a solid gold rocking horse, and a mini Bugatti car for when her motor skills are more developed. And in the mean time, a £10,000 Swarovski-studded high chair and £30,000 'coach carriage' crib will keep Blue Ivy comfortable while stationary.
Beyoncé's mother Tina Knowles recently spoke out about her granddaughter, telling People magazine: 'She's doing great. She's beautiful.' '[Being a grandma is] amazing. It's the second best job I've ever had.'

Picture of the Month February -BABY BLUE IVY CARTER

You Are My Rock
More than a month after Beyonce and Jay-Z welcomed their first child to the world, pictures of the newborn, Blue Ivy Carter, have emerged. A Tumblr blog titled “HelloBlueIvyCarter” popped up on Friday night, displaying five photographs of the baby.
Blue Ivy was born sometime on Jan. 7. The text on the new Tumblr blog reads, “We welcome you to share in our joy. Thank you for respecting our privacy during this this beautiful time in our lives. The Carter Family.”
She is reportedly named after two album titles: Jay-Z’s The Blueprint and Beyonce’s 4, which is IV in Roman numerals. Tumblr could not be reached for comment by press time.
The photos likely will spark significant traffic on Tumblr, which after an explosive 2011 started this year by revealing impressive numbers that highlight the micro-blogging platform’s continue growth: 15 billion monthly page views and 120 million monthly unique visitors.
Pls no pings....gotta sleep (lol)

Blue Ivy made a name for herself before she even had a name or was born. At the end of a performance at the MTV Video Music Awards, Beyonce confirmed her pregnancy by dropping her mic, unbuttoning her top and rubbing her baby bump. The “bump” moment broke Twitter’s tweets-per-second record at the time with 8,868 tweets per second. (Four unrelated events have since surpassed the “bump” in the record books.)
Sup Mom...

While the weekend birth didn’t reach the buzz level the bump did at the VMAs, Twitter did experience a significant spike. Social analytics firm Simply Measured told Mashable in January that tweets per minute peaked at 2,379 tweets at 11:15 p.m. PT on Jan. 7, which is a “healthy number for a non-televised, rumor driven event.” The chart below shows the rise in the mentions of “baby,” “Blue” and “birth.”

Hip hop pioneer Russell Simmons was the first celebrity to congratulate Beyonce and Jay-Z via a tweet, according to Simply Measured. Other big-name Twitter users followed suit. Here is a list of some of the most-followed Twitter users who mentioned “Beyonce” during the time period measured above.
Take my hand and bring forth joy

Proud father
Two days after Blue Ivy was born, her parents revealed an audio recording of the infant for the first time. The Jay-Z song “Glory” (listen below) features Blue Ivy at the end of the track after the proud poppa raps, “Words can’t describe what I’m feeling for real. Baby, I paint the sky blue. My greatest creation was you.” Jay-Z announced the song Jan. 9 via a tweet, which includes a link to the track on his web site Life + Times.
