Day 1
Next destination on the Destiny Child nationwide
audition is Makurdi, Benue state also known as the ‘food basket of the nation’,
and on another perspective, it has proven to be a totally different turf
regarding the general turnout of gospel music enthusiasts in comparison to
Abuja. The venue for the Makurdi auditions is Hotel Reuphina, with few
contestants, everything was in place as organizers put all in motion for the
event to run smoothly. A lot of smiling faces, a few others with serious facial
expressions but all still hopeful that fate shines on them and are given a
chance for fame in Destiny Child Season 2, day one went into full swing for the
pre-auditions. Two audition halls, judges U-Cheena and Tolu Obanro, the
contestants showing what they have to offer in exchange for green cards which
serves as a reward for seemingly exceptional or special performances of some
sort.
Day 2
A new day dawns in the Makurdi invasion; and the
main audition sees more contestants turn up with those that could not register
day one.The judges are, Gospel singer Chris Morgan, Producer; U-Cheena
Eshareturi and Music Producer/ Director, Tolu Obanro, who together analyzed
each music talent and decide the fate of every contestant while searching for
the two finalists for the zone. For the first stage of the auditions,
contestants require two YES’s to move on to the next stage and this saw the
contestants reduced from about 50 to just 19 and they soon move on to the next
stage. The criterion for qualification is to get three YES’s each. This leads
them to the final stage, the decisive stage which unveils the two finalists,
male and female, the male being one who had auditioned the year before for the
first season without making it to DC City, he auditioned in Abuja for season 2,
there he wasn’t selected, he kept faith, came down to Makurdi with the believe
that he will make it to DC City, here his faith couldn’t be denied as Destiny
did shine on him. In the end, talents emerge, amidst the characteristic. But
most prominent amongst the contestants are two individuals who had also
auditioned the year before for the first season, one a visually impaired man
and the other a 14-year-old female rapper who made it to the top 5 but was
disqualified because of the stipulated age limit for the competition.
Commenting on the Destiny Child brand, turnout of contestants and talent
unveiled, Audition Judge, Chris Morgan described it as “A platform God has
created in the end time to raise kingdom stars.” “I’m proud to be a part of
this. I saw talent, gifted and anointed people of God. My ideal destiny child
is one who looks up to God only and is not shaken no matter what.” The singer
continued. “The role of the church in society is a major one but unity has not
been fully achieved within it, with that and adequate sponsorship, the sky is
not even the limit.” He concluded. The Destiny Child Crew is headed to the city
with a heart; Owerri in Imo State, her search is for even more extraordinary
gospel music talent that will make up the top 16 and to DC City for the Season
